3-Dimensional Services Driver’s Spotlight: Ron Keith
May 11, 2014
The rookie phenom of TA2 in 2014, Ron Keith, has powered the No. 25 Mike Cope Racing Ford Mustang to three podium placements so far this year, in his first three Trans Am races—a near perfect start to the season and his career.
And despite his fantastic start to the season and current second position in the TA2 points standings, Keith thinks he still has another level within reach.
“I don’t know if I call this success yet,” said Keith. “But, and I know everyone says this and everyone hears this, my crew is really special. It always begins with, ‘we’ve got to finish,’ that’s the first objective for us—we need to be there when it counts. We’ve got a great car, it’s been spectacular—we haven’t had any mechanical issues, no brake issues, nothing and that’s kept me in the race and that has let me be consistent. I’ve never been the fastest, but I’ve been consistent; so if you look at the hour-long race and my lap times, they haven’t fallen off. My weakness right now is qualifying. I’ve got another notch I have to hit to move up, and guys like Cameron Lawrence, Adam Andretti and Bob Stretch are all great competitors; and if there is anything expediting my abilities, it’s being able to be up there and watch their lines and learn from competing with them.”
Keith also lends his meteoric rise to the TA2 class and its platform for racing.
“This is a great series. I came from the dirt racing ranks, and the competition here is as high level as you can get it; but at the same time the platform allows someone like me, who hasn’t been what I’d consider a pro racer his whole life, to come out here and compete, and that’s the beauty of it. If you’ve got a good team, a good car, some ability and you give yourself some time, you can compete in this series and that’s what makes it a whole lot of fun.”
