Sheehan and Team Gain Valuable Insights at VIR
September 24, 2025
Alton, VIRGINIA — September 24, 2025 – Tom Sheehan delivered a determined performance in the Trans Am TA2 Pro/Am Challenge at VIRginia International Raceway, showcasing his trademark resilience and commitment in the No. 97 Vixen Cycle / LTK Ford Mustang. Sheehan qualified P16 overall out of 26 cars and P4 in the Pro/Am class.
The 97 Vixen entry surged forward at the drop of the green flag. An early melee at the exit of Oak Tree set back the No. 97 Mike Cope machine. Sheehan recovered and charged back. The Vixen / LTK Ford Mustang had pace to reclaim the podium only to end in calamity on the front stretch. The off-track excursion caused right-front damage. Sheehan made an unscheduled pit stop for inspection and repairs. Critical work by the Mike Cope Racing crew got the Mustang back on track.
Tom’s comments directly after the race, "It was good to get the car back out. We got a chance to shake it down. The team will have it ready for Barber, we had a good car. I think we are leaving with one too. “
The Pro/Am Challenge field put on a strong show at VIR. Jared Odrick continued his excellent season, qualifying at the front of the class and driving a smooth, commanding race to take the win in the No. 00 Chevrolet Camaro. Cale Phillips impressed at his home track in the No. 99 Ford Mustang, earning a well-deserved second-place finish. Keith Prociuk fought back from early contact to capture third in the No. 9 HP Tuners/Cope Race Cars Ford Mustang, a gritty drive that highlighted the depth of talent in the category.
Tom shares his takeaways from VIR, "It was a good day, we fired off well and had some consistency in the pace. Car was fun to drive it was a shame to get caught out with some damage. We kept pushing and turned some strong laps even after the setback. The crew worked hard to get me back out, we came away without a result. The team had a solid weekend, My teammate Will got a Top 10 and drove a smart race. Overall take away VIR gives us a great direction moving forward. Congratulations to all the guys who ran well today. I am really happy for my teammate, Keith . Keith is our dog in the Pro/Am championship fight. It’s exciting for the team."
With the VIR weekend complete, Sheehan and the No. 97 team will build on the lessons learned as they prepare for the next round of the Trans Am TA2 Pro/Am Challenge.
The CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series next hits the track October 17-19 for the Trans Am Series’ first visit to Barber Motorsports Park.
