Championship Countdown - Chris Coffey: GT National Championship

For the second-consecutive season, Chris Coffey earned the National Championship’s GT title, following a stellar season with a total of six victories. Coffey also continued his impressive win ratio, having driven to Victory Lane 19 times in 23-career GT starts in the Trans Am Series.

Coffey kicked off 2025 with a win in the Sebring International Raceway season opener in his No. 97 Norwood Auto Italia/Traffic Grafix Maserati MC GT4.

“That race was pretty awesome,” said Coffey on the podium. “This guy right here [Mike Fitzpatrick] kept me honest from start to finish. We were basically nose-to-tail the whole way; it was absolutely incredible. I can’t thank my crew enough, Mike and Xavier. We worked all night last night and we tried a setup change and wound up damaging the car in the process. We didn’t know what we had to start the race, and thankfully, we got it right back to where it was. I need to thank my wife Morgan and my son Sam, and Colin Cohen, who makes all of this possible. I’m glad to start the year off right.”

Victories at Road Atlanta and Sonoma Raceway put Coffey on a three-race win streak, and made him an early favorite for the title. He remained in the hunt with a second-place finish at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, then earned back-to-back wins at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Road America.

“It was an absolutely fantastic race,” said Coffey at Road America. “I want to thank Josh Hurley. He's really the scientist behind the action, helping me get the car set up through every session. We do so much work, it's crazy. I want to thank Colin and Nancy [Cohen]; without them, I couldn't be here. They are the most important part of my racing program.”

Coffey pulled off one more victory at VIRginia International Raceway, clinching his second-consecutive GT title.

“I'm excited for winning another championship this year,” reflected Coffey. “It was a real hard-fought battle through the year.”

This season also saw Coffey make his debut in the SGT class in the season finale at Circuit of The Americas, where he finished second. COTA is Coffey’s home track, and the venue where he made his Trans Am debut in 2022.

In terms of 2026, Coffey was unsure if he’d make the step up to SGT or return to the GT class to fight for his third-consecutive title.

“We're still undecided,” he said. “We're going to see how competitive this [SGT] car can be. We may come back to the GT class to try to do a third championship in a row.”
