Archer Navigates Through the Field to Finish 4th at VIR
September 29, 2015
Alton, VA – Tommy Archer and his #54 c3controls Chevrolet Camaro wasted no time moving to the front of the pack during the 30 lap race at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), coming home with a well-earned 4th place finish. Archer started 14th, as starting positions were based off of current point’s standings because of a rained out qualifying session, passed 5 cars within the first 2 laps of the race. By lap 4 and the first caution of the race, Tommy continued to work his way through the rainy and wet track conditions to 5thposition. The second caution flew on lap 8, where Tommy gained an additional position as the 4th place car ahead of him made a trip to pit lane for repairs.
Tommy continued to move forward to the 3rd spot and positioned himself for a podium finish when another yellow flag was waved. Prior to the restart, an officiating call moved his position from 3rd to 5th for what was deemed as passing of another car under the yellow flag. Although the team objected to the call that was made, Tommy settled in with 12 laps to go and continued to move forward. By this time, the track started to dry out, which didn’t align with set up of the car that was prepped for wet track conditions. Due to the slick track conditions, several cars within the 56 car field slid off the track bringing grass onto the track and accumulating on Tommy’s radiator screen. This then caused the motor to heat up forcing Tommy to slow the pace in order to save the engine and finish the race. In the end, the race was shortened with around 11 minutes remaining due to a guard rail needing to be repaired on the track and unfortunately, not enough time to complete the needed repairs.
The team is thrilled to have started that far back in the pack and work so quickly through the field to run at the front and contend for a podium finish. The Archer Brothers team will carry this momentum onto the next race in New Orleans at the NOLA Motorsports Park on Sunday, October 11th at 12:35pm EST with a car that is leaving VIR with only one scratch on it.
