Behind the Lens by Seth DeDoes

Trans Am presented by Pirelli West Coast Championship photographer Seth DeDoes gives us a personal look into his creative process, sharing some of his favorite photos from the 2019 Thunderhill Raceway Park event.
Seth DeDoes:
Although I’d seen the track many times in video and photos, last year was my first time shooting at Thunderhill Raceway Park.

Of course I was delighted to see the place transformed from the typically dusty-brown fields of dry grass to a literal motorsport Shangri-La, replete with multiple shades of bright wildflowers.

To call it the prettiest weekend I’ve ever had at a race track would be a gross understatement. Nobody was there for the scenery, however, and the race did not disappoint.

From Pickett scoring his 21st TA victory after having to swap an engine on Saturday, to the modern equivalent of the Bruce and Denny show with the Mustang wielding duo of Eagleton and Borders swapping the lead a ridiculous 51 times!

As for picking images, it was tough but I tried to choose some that told the story, some that showcased the uniqueness of the scenery, and some that simply had a little extra artistic quality.

Wish we were there right now, but I’m sure everyone has the same sentiment these days!

The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli West Coast Championship was originally scheduled to run at Thunderhill Raceway Park April 4-5 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new date is scheduled for a TBA date in August.

Until we return, please enjoy these photo selections from Seth DeDoes.
