Berkeley Takes 3rd Pole and 2nd Win of 2014 at Lime Rock, Moves to Within One Point of Championship Lead
September 22, 2014
(Team Release) Lakeville, CT - Jason Berkeley and the BMG Management Berkeley Motorsports Team took their 2nd win of the season in the iconic Trans Am series TA3I class at Lime Rock Park yesterday.
Starting from the front row after claiming his third pole position of the season, Berkeley was able to build an early lead in his BMG Management Chevrolet Corvette that was large enough to overcome a minor late race issue with the car that may have grown worse had he continued his early pace.
'I have to thank the guys at Backstreet Performance and my crew for once again giving me a great car to drive' said team principal and driver Jason Berkeley. "Lime Rock is such a beautiful place to race, it's great for me and the guys to walk away with another clean sweep of pole, fast lap, new track record, and the win."
A loud thumping noise which turned out to be a loose brake-duct, was communicated to Crew Chief Matt Carson, who advised Jason that he had enough of a lead to reduce his pace to ensure that the car would make it to the finish in first position.
This win puts Jason and the BMG Management Berkeley Motorsports squad within a single point of the championship lead in the re-surgent Trans Am series TA3 International Class, an exciting mix of Corvettes, Porsches, Vipers and BMWs that have been pounding the tracks of North America all season.
Berkeley remains hopeful that with continued hard work, he and the team will be able to claim the season championship. 'We still have a little bit of work to do to continue working on developing the car's set-up and ensure that we are getting every last bit of speed out of it,' Berkeley said. 'With a tight three way championship battle between myself, Russ, and Norm, it's going to be tough, but I think we can pull together as a team and make it happen.' said Berkeley, referring to Russ Snow and Norm Betts, the two other challengers for the TA3I title.
With two races remaining in the season, the Trans Am series next stop is Virginia International Raceway this coming weekend, September 26th - 28th.
