Damon Racing Ready for Unique Challenge of COTA

Austin, TEXAS - November 3, 2020 - Tom Sheehan and the Damon Racing team head down to Texas from New Hampshire this week aiming to better his top ten finish at Circuit of the Americas in 2019 with everything to play for as we head into the final stint of the 2020 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship season.

Tom's bright yellow No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang is an awesome sight on the grid of the TA2 Class in the iconic muscle car series. The team has shown perseverance this year and the Mike Cope platform LTK car sits P8 out of 43 starters after six races this season. The team has scored two top 10 finishes, at Ohio and in the second race at Virginia, as bad luck has contributed to Damon Racing's 74 Championship points with five races to go. Tom was certainly upbeat about the racing to come this weekend, and the unique challenge of COTA, when we spoke to him at his New Hampshire shop.

"2020 has been a tough year for lots of folks across the county and the globe, I am grateful to be racing," stated Tom Sheehan, driver of the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang. "Some tough luck is easy to put behind us. Lots of racing left in the championship. I have 100 percent confidence in the car my abilities and the team, let’s go racing."

Indeed, while the 2020 Presidential election may be competitive, it's nothing compared to the high octane action on the TA2 grid, where every corner is contested and every track position is fought over.

The venue opened eight years ago on October 21, 2012 Circuit of the Americas (COTA), host for Round 7 of this year's Trans Am Series. COTA is a Grade 1 FIA-specification 3.427-mile motor racing track and the current home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix. The upcoming Trans Am action forms a key part of the 2020 U.S. Vintage National Championships and uniquely it is a weekend when the West Coast Championship and the National Championship share the track. It's arguably North America's Premier Motorsports facility these days, and having been designed primarily with Formula One cars in mind, presents a unique and particularly tough challenge for the muscle cars of Trans Am. It also makes for one of the best spectacles of the year.

28 cars will be competing at COTA in the TA2 category, making a full field of action packed racing. The first taste of the awesome circuit for the TA2 competitors will be when the grid forms up for the test session at 10:40 a.m. on Friday, November 6. There is a second test session with the cars due on the grid at 4:00 p.m. the same afternoon with 25 minutes official practice scheduled from 10:45 a.m. until 11:10 a.m. on Saturday, November 7.

The all important qualifying session runs from 4:10 p.m. to 4:25 p.m. on Saturday late afternoon with the race itself, the AEM sponsored, 30 lap event at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 8. Make sure to download the Trans Am presented by Pirelli app for live viewing of the race! Fans can also watch live stream coverage via YouTube or Facebook.
