Paul Fix claims pole for Lime Rock Park race
September 19, 2014
Paul Fix will be on pole come the start of tomorrow’s 100.5 mile Trans Am race at Lime Rock Park, Round 9 of the 2014 Trans Am Championship, a position earned by way of his 00:50.829 second lap time during today’s qualifying session— leading the TA class for the third time today behind the wheel of the No. 4 StopFlex.com/Tony Ave Racing Chevrolet Corvette.
The position primes Fix to repeat his TA class win here at Lime Rock in 2014; and while this is Fix’s first race of the 2014 Season, he shows no sign of rust whatsoever as he prepares to commence his pursuit of back-to-back wins at Lime Rock Park.
Starting alongside Fix will be Cliff Ebben, in the No. 36 Stumpf Ford/ McMahon Group Ford Mustang, who was part of an incredibly tight TA class showing between second and fourth position with a time of 00:50.829. Following him was Doug Peterson, driving the No. 87 3Dimensional.com Chevrolet Corvette, with a 00:51.323, Simon Gregg, in the No. 59 Derhaag Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette, with a 00:51.328 and David Pintaric with a 00:51.893, rounding out the top five for the ultra-tight TA class.
In TA2, it was Adam Andretti in the No. 44 Engineered Components Chevrolet Camaro who led the way with a 00:53.946, a new track record, beating out the 00:53.959 of defending TA2 Champion Cameron Lawrence, in the No. 1 Miller Racing Dodge Challenger, who will start in second position.
The qualifying results set up what should be a race for the Lime Rock history books, as both drivers are vying for vital points in the TA2 Championship chase. Lawrence currently leads that race with 228 points to Andretti’s 214, but both parties will be aiming to capture vital points come tomorrow’s race.
Kevin Poitras, in the No. 73 Mike Cope Racing Chevrolet Camaro, placed third in the session with a 00:54.289, while Tommy Archer, in the No. 11 Dodge Challenger, placed fourth with a 00:54.371 and last year’s race winner Bob Stretch, in the No. 98 FixRimMobile Chevrolet Camaro, rounded out the top five with a 54.909.
In TA3, it was Ernie Francis, Jr., who set the fast lap for the class with a time of 00:56.617, also leading the American Muscle Group. Jason Berkeley in the No. 67 BMG Management Chevrolet Corvette will start alongside Francis, courtesy of his 00:57.751, leading the International Group, while Todd Napieralski rounded out the top three for Trans Am’s production based class.
Trans Am will take to the course tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. EDT for the 100.5 mile Trans Am race, Round 9 of the 2014 Trans Am Championship, 67 laps around the course here at Lime Rock Park.
