Ruman Set for Watkins Glen This Weekend After a 6th at Road America

Munroe Falls, Ohio – The busy summer racing schedule continues this weekend as the Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli travels Watkins Glen International, NY (WGI) for Round 8 of the 2025 schedule.
Road America Recap: The Cheese Capital Cup weekend was a mechanical struggle for Ruman and team. The transmission broke early in practice on Friday morning causing the team to miss qualifying. The parts were overnighted from NC and received just in time for the crew to fix and make the race on Saturday. Ruman started seventh and steadily moved up in her No. 23 McNichols Co./Valley Automotive Group Chevrolet Corvette ultimately running in fourth place for most of the race. With about 10 laps to go, the transmission started acting up, eventually losing the ability to downshift into first, second, and third gears. Unfortunately, fifth (Drissi) and sixth place (Jones) closed in and passed Ruman with a half lap to go in the race, dropping her two positions.
“What a heartbreaker that was,” exclaimed Ruman. “I’m so disappointed for the team after all their hard work getting it fixed in time to make the race. Not sure what exactly happened yet, but I couldn't downshift to first, second, or third for the last five laps of the race. I tried to hold the guys off as long as I could but without the lower gears I couldn't make it through the slower turns fast enough.”
Watkins Glen Preview: Trans Am returns to the infamous WGI road course for its 50th time this weekend as part of the 2025 SpeedTour. Competitors will be running the 3.4-mile “long course” configuration which includes “the boot” section of the track.
“I’m excited to head back to my favorite track and the crew went through everything and got Corvette all fixed up. I lost some valuable points at Road America, so I’m focused on a podium finish here this weekend. I won here in 2016, it sure would be great to grab another one,” remarked Ruman.
Thirty-six competitors are entered across all classes, with eight running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, qualifying, and races will take place Friday through Sunday. The CUBE 3 Architecture TA2® Series race will be Saturday, July 12th at 1:05pm ET. The Trans Am TA/XGT/SGT/GT feature will be Sunday at 12:05pm ET, with a fan walk on pit lane beginning at 11:20pm ET. Both races are 30-laps (102-mi) – all times listed are ET. After Round 7, Paul Menard leads the TA National class championship with 673 points, followed by Adam Andretti in second – 647, Tomy Drissi in third – 614, Amy Ruman is fourth – 601, and Chris Dyson sits in fifth – with 582 points.
