Napieralski and Lux lead TA3, Joe Ebben elects to requalify
BRAINERD, Minn. (July 5, 2015) – The Trans Am Series held a final practice session in preparation for this afternoon’s Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic at Brainerd International Raceway, Round 6 of the 2015 Trans Am Championship, with 27 of the 39-car field electing to participate.
In the TA class, Amy Ruman, driver of the No. 23 McNichols Company Chevrolet Corvette, set the pace with a 1:27.892 lap time around the 2.5-mile competition course at the Minnesota track. Ruman will look to carry that speed with her into this afternoon’s race where the No. 23 will start in second position in her pursuit of a fifth victory on the year.
The second best time of the session went to the driver Ruman will attempt to overtake this afternoon, polesitter and driver of the No. 87 3Dimensional.com Chevrolet Corvette, Doug Peterson. Peterson, the two-time defending Champion of the TA class, turned a 1:28.197 in preparation for the race. Peterson’s Tony Ave Racing teammate and driver of the No. 4 StopFlex.com/TheCarCoach.com Chevrolet Corvette, laid down the third fastest time of the session with a 1:28.384.
In TA2, Dillon Machavern, driver of the No. 24 UniFirst/PPG Ford Mustang, set the class best lap time of 1:32.425, better than Tommy Archer’s time of 1:32.849 which set pole yesterday. Tony Ave, in the No. 70 Lamers Motor Racing Ford Mustang, followed with a time of 1:32.863, while Shane Lewis, in the No. 72 74 Ranch Resort Chevrolet Camaro, was third with a time of 1:32.909.
In the TA3 class, Cindi Lux, driver of the No. 42 Lux Performance Dodge Viper, set the pace for the International Group with a 1:35.739 while Todd Napieralski, in the No. 39 Tremec/SKF/Backstreet Chevrolet Camaro, led the American Muscle Group with a time of 1:39.138.
Joe Ebben, in the No. 14 Stumpf Ford/McMahon Group Ford Mustang, was the sole competitor who elected to participate in Trans Am’s second chance to qualify, turning a 1:36.005, resulting in the No. 14 holding its starting position of 16th on grid.
The 100-mile, 40-lap, Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic will take place at 1:50 PM CT this afternoon for Round 6 of the 2015 Trans Am Championship.
