SHOWTIME HEADS TO COTA WITH MOTORSPORTS RIDING HIGH

Austin, TEXAS - October 30, 2020 - The Tennessee based Franklin Motorsports team will head to Circuit of The Americas in Texas next week for Round 7 of the 2020 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championships. Showtime and Thwaits are in pole position to capture the inaugural XtremeGT Class title and with motorsports riding high in popularity with the fans and enthusiasts.
The Showtime team is the domain of Ken Thwaits, an avid motorsports figure as well as being an extremely capable driver. Ken is fast becoming a fixture in the Trans Am paddock and the only thing that puzzles onlookers is how come this is only Ken's first full season in Trans Am, given how he looks so at home in the Series.
This year, Ken has been driving the black No. 5 Audi R8 LMS Ultra, the ultra reliable supercar propelling him to wins at Brainerd, Road America and Virginia International Raceway in the XGT Class. His total of 191 points for the season means he sits in first place with five races to go.
"I feel really at home here in Trans Am," said Ken when we spoke to him this week ahead of the trip down to the Yellow Rose State. "It's a well organized Series, competitive and professional but without losing any of the enjoyment. It's a pity that spectators haven't been able to come to all of the events but very encouraging that tickets are on sale for the final three venues."
Of his rivalry with Erich Joiner he added, "No doubt I'll be doing battle with Erich for the rest of the season. I'm on top at the moment and I intend to stay there but it's going to be tough racing and we love it!"
The Trans Am roadshow trip to Texas comes at a time when motorsports is riding high with the public. August 2020 set an all-time record of no fewer than 460,356 story shares directly from the RACER Magazine website with a whopping 9,043 reader comments highlighting the huge organic growth and engagement generated in the motorsport industry.
The 2020 racing season will be remembered as the year when racers, teams, manufacturers, sanctioning bodies and event promoters adapted rapidly to lead the sporting world back to action amid the pandemic. John Clagget and the Trans Am management have been exemplary in this regard, getting a full programme of 11 races together under the most difficult of circumstances. After COTA, there are then two races at each of Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca with the second races at those venues both being all-class events with TA, TA2, XGT, SGT and GT cars all on the track at the same time!
Circuit of the Americas (COTA) is a Grade 1 FIA-specification 3.427-mile motor racing track and the current home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix. The spectator experience at an SVRA event is like no other motorsport. The paddock area is always open to spectators, offering an up-close level of access to cars and drivers. Attendees can check out the garages and see vintage race cars and Trans Am cars getting prepped for the track. Race-goers will see why the Trans Am and vintage racing community is one of the most friendly and knowledgeable groups of people in the car world.
