Sheehan’s Progress Halted at Watkins Glen SpeedTour: A Tough Break in Round 8 of the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series

Bow, New Hampshire – July 14, 2025 – Tom Sheehan’s momentum in the 2025 CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series presented by Pirelli was interrupted at Watkins Glen International, despite a promising start to the weekend. Piloting the No. 97 Vixen Cycle Co./LTK/Cope Ford Mustang for Damon Racing, Sheehan took on the historic 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course on July 12 during Round 8 of the Trans Am Series.

Coming off a disappointing disqualification at Road America, Sheehan arrived at Watkins Glen with determination to rebound. The feature race, streamed live on SPEED SPORT 1 and Trans Am’s YouTube channel, got underway with Sheehan gaining ground. However, as coverage resumed after a commercial break, his No. 97 Mustang was seen halted in the pit lane with the race under caution. The rear offside wheel had been removed in the pits, and broadcast analyst Adam Andretti pointed to a possible shock mount or bar failure.

The mechanical issue forced Sheehan to complete only 16 laps before retiring from the race.

“It’s always special to come to the Glen,” said Sheehan. “It’s hard to complain when you look around our garage and see Jason Bowser, Jamie Aube and Butch Miller are under our cars. Racing is demanding and I am supported by some great people. Tough day, we had a mechanical problem, and it ended our day. Not what we were looking for. I’m focusing on getting past the disappointment.”

Despite the setback, Sheehan’s fastest lap of 1:56.189 was consistent with his practice times, suggesting his race pace remained solid until the issue occurred. Earning 80 points for the weekend, he continues on next month to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, August 28.

Post-race drama added further intrigue when initial winner Tristan McKee was disqualified due to a technical infraction, handing victory to Tyler Kicera. The disqualification underscored the importance of compliance—a topic still fresh for Sheehan after his own Road America experience.

A spokesperson for Vixen Cycle Co. praised Sheehan’s resilience, “Tom continues to show leadership and grit. He’s got the car, the team, and the mindset to bounce back stronger. We’re excited for what’s next.”

Though his 2025 run at Watkins Glen didn’t yield a podium like in 2024, Sheehan remained active with fans throughout the weekend, engaging via Instagram (@TomSheehanTA97) and X (@TomTA2_97), and embracing the vibrant race day atmosphere featuring events like the Checkered Flag Challenge and a live performance by Alyssa Crosby.

The No. 97 Vixen Cycle Co./LTK/Cope Ford Mustang team extends its gratitude to its sponsors, crew, and fans for their unwavering support. Sheehan’s drive and dedication continue to inspire, and the team is eager to return to the track to compete for the top spots.
