Sits 12th in Standings After Six Events
LEVEL CROSS, N.C. (June 15, 2023) — Having never been behind the wheel of a Trans Am TA2 car before this season, rookie Thad Moffitt is turning heads in the Trans Am TA2 championship. Coming off a second-place finish on the tough streets of Detroit, Moffitt and his No. 43 TeamSLR team are currently 12th in the championship chase. He is only 11 points out of 10th.
Moffitt started the season in his Safety-Kleen No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro with three consecutive top-12 finishes at tracks that he’d never been to. Those included races at Sebring, New Orleans and Road Atlanta- where Moffitt welcomed new primary partner, Victory Impact. The quick start to the season had Moffitt in the top-10 in championship standings and one of the top young guns and rookies in the series full of road course specialists.
“We really should have had three top-10 finishes if we had any luck to begin our season,” stated Moffitt. “But we were fast and our TeamSLR team was really helping me get comfortable with the car and these races. The fields are 40-plus cars at times. There is a ton of tough competition and we came out with a pretty good start considering some of the bad luck.”
Still fast, Moffitt qualified 13th at Lime Rock Park, but was crashed and left with a 29th-place result. During the Detroit doubleheader, Moffitt and the team had more bad luck to start the weekend after cutting a tire in the first race. However, the next day Moffitt and TeamSLR rebounded to compete for the win and finish second. Moffitt jumped to third in the rookie standings and seventh of the “Young Guns” in the series.
