Tom Sheehan Focused Leaving CTMP Trans Am as Three Events Remain for 2025 Season

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario - September 2, 2025 - Tom Sheehan showed determination and steady progress during Round 9 of the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). Fighting from deep in the field to earn a hard-fought P4 finish in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series ProAm Challenge on what was always going to be a challenging weekend for the Trans Am family following the tragic death of fellow ProAm competitor Barry Boes in a plane crash on the evening of August 18.
"All of us in Trans Am have our thoughts with the loved ones of Barry Boes," said Tom Sheehan. "It's a tragic loss and he will be missed by many. Barry loved racing and was a talented and respected competitor. It sinks in coming back to the track."
Sheehan, driving the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang, entered the qualifying session facing stiff competition on the fast and technical 2.459-mile Canadian circuit. With a reduced number of cars making the journey north of the border, Trans Am broke with tradition and ran all classes simultaneously.
Once the green flag dropped, Sheehan delivered on a track where courage is mandatory. Capitalizing on race attrition ahead, he advanced and by the time the checkered flag waved, Sheehan had climbed five spots to finish P14 overall and P4 in class.
When asked about the weekend at CTMP, Sheehan responded, “The weekend was a bit awkward to be honest. The reality that Barry isn’t going to be here, that hit. Between the rain on the test day and the distractions of technical bulletin interpretations, Thursday was a loss. Friday, we had one bite at the apple and then qualifying. The Cope crew worked nonstop. Saturday’s race was marred with some confusion in timing and scoring. The multi-class format had some wrinkles. For the fans at the racetrack I think we put on a good show, for the fans watching at home I imagine they were as confused as I was. The last restart had lead lap cars scored wrong and lap cars in front of cars racing for lead lap spots. It’s out of my control. All of it. So, we go on to VIR, the Vixen Mustang is still not where we need to be. It’s frustrating, the answer isn’t that far away, I think we made some progress for sure, it’s not easy, the racing thing. It’s a team and a machine verses the other teams and machines. Lot of technical changes and rule interpretations in a short period. It’s a lot to keep up with. Clarity is elusive. But in all of that I am blessed, I am with people I love, doing something I love. So, in prospective I leave Canada with a refocused mind. I am hungry for a result.”
Sheehan’s performance also strengthened his standing in the ProAm Challenge. Following CTMP, Sheehan sits P5 out of 21 competitors in the standings with 635 championship points as the season enters its final stretch.
The weekend at CTMP was marked by exciting battles across all Trans Am classes, with young talent and seasoned veterans showcasing their skills. Sheehan’s steady advancement from P19 to P14 overall highlighted the grit and perseverance required to succeed at one of North America’s most challenging road courses.
The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli continues its 2025 season at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) on September 18-21, where Sheehan will look to build on his progress and continue his push in the ProAm Challenge standings.
