Tom Sheehan Readies for Road America with LTK Insulation Technologies Team
July 5, 2023
Elkhart Lake, WISCONSIN – July 5, 2023 – Tom Sheehan and the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Damon Racing Ford team are looking forward to taking on the renowned Road America, July 7 - 9.
Tom has plenty of reasons to be optimistic about Round 8 of the Big Machine Spiked Coolers TA2 Series season. The Ironman racer has six Top 10 results in his past 11 starts at the storied venue.
In 2017, the New Hampshire native put together one of his finest races at the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course. Qualifying in P11 in a field of 26 drivers, Tom drove to a strong P7 result, showcasing the strength and grit found with an LTK Pro-Fit Insulation Jacket.
With six races left in the TA2 season, Tom and his hardworking team focus on achieving maximum results, much like HVAC specialists discover with LTK's quality insulation products. Prior to the Road America race weekend, Tom offered his thoughts on the FIA Grade 2 track to our race reporter.
"Road America repaved is going to be amazing," stated Sheehan. "The weather is getting hotter. I like the heat. The team will unload fast and keep working hard on getting faster. Should be good!"
Road America presents unique challenges in terms of its complex, recently repaved layout. Following the high-speed Road America straight, drivers contend with a couple of sharp, right-handers in Turns 1 and 3.
After the Moraine Sweep, racers have potential risky passing opportunities in Turns 5 and 6, two hard-braking, left-turning corners. Hurry Downs sets up another left-hander in Turn 8 before the sweeping right-turning Carousel in Turns 9 through 11.
Kettle Bottoms offers the best last passing opportunity prior to Canada Corner and Bill Mitchell Bend in Turns 12 and 13. From there, a sharp right-hander in Turn 14 leads to the 4,400-foot front straight.
Altogether, Road America is a driver's racetrack with its elevation changes, hard-braking zones, and various straights. With fresh asphalt on the racing surface, Tom and his competitors will clock off quick times throughout the weekend.
Tom’s Road America efforts kick off with an optional test session on Friday, July 7. Then, drivers and teams take to the track with a 25-minute practice session and group qualifying sessions on Saturday, July 8.
The 3-Dimensional Services Group 100, a race set for 25 laps or 75 minutes on Sunday, July 9, gets the green flag around 12:30 p.m. CT.
This year, Trans Am races are available for live streaming on Trans Am and SpeedTour's YouTube channels, with full playbacks immediately available after the race. Additionally, the races can be seen in edited, 60-minute features broadcasted on MAVTV's Thursday night primetime slot at 8 p.m. ET.
