Tom Sheehan and LTK Insulation Technologies Mike Cope Racing Revved Up for Virginia

Alton, VIRGINIA – October 4, 2023 – With two races remaining in the 2023 Big Machine Spiked Coolers TA2 season, Tom Sheehan prepares for VIRginia International Raceway. The SpeedTour event is slated for October 6 - 8.

While the past two races were trying for the New Hampshire native, VIRginia International Raceway offers plentiful optimism for Tom. In 11 prior starts, “The Ironman” has six top 10 results including a solid P3 in 2013.

As autumn rolls in, the No. 97 LTK Insultation Technologies Mike Cope Racing Ford Mustang team hopes to heat up. Likewise, Tom has his sleeves rolled up, ready for the challenge at the 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course.

Although the season is winding down, Tom and his crew mates hope for better days in their office – the racetrack. Like LTK’s mission in racing and mechanical insulation rewarding organization, Tom wants to achieve stellar results for his team.

Heading into Round 12 of the 2023 TA2 season, Tom ranks P17 in the driver’s standings. Presently, he is 33 points from P15 in the standings, a potential goal post to pursue for the tenacious racer.

Ahead of the penultimate race of the year, Tom shared his perspectives on taking on this distinct road course in Southern Virginia.

"I'm going to do my job, work hard and have some fun. It's been challenging to deal with the bad luck at the past two outings. I'm just focusing forward and VIR is the next stop."

VIRginia International Raceway will provide distinct, unique challenges for Tom and his competitors. Still, Tom is ready, just like homeowners proactively trusting an LTK Pro-Fit jacket to guard against the harsh elements.

This FIA Grade 2 track, originally opened in 1957, starts off with a sharp right hander in Turn 1. Not long after, the sweeping left handers in Turns 2 and 3 lead to a brief straight.

After relatively routine corners in Turns 4 through 6, the field encounters “The Climbing Esses” in Turns 7 through 9. Following Turn 10, the “Oak Tree” in Turns 11 and 12 are hard braking zones to set up a pass.

A long straight offers some high speed thrills before the approach into Turn 13. The “Roller Coaster” in Turn 14 evokes similarities with the “Corkscrew” in Laguna Seca, a daring passing opportunity.

Swooping corners in Turns 15 through 17 precede the frontstretch where Turn 18 leads to the start/finish line stripe. Lap times will likely be around the 1:48 to 1:59 bracket, making qualifying ever so crucial.

Round 12 of the 2023 TA2 season kicks off on Friday, Oct. 6, with two test sessions. A late morning practice session along with group qualifying sessions comprise on track activities on Saturday, Oct. 7. On Sunday, Oct. 8, Tom and the TA2 field duel on track for 30 laps or 75 minutes.

The penultimate race of the season gets the green flag around 1:25 p.m. ET, the only on-track event for TA2 in October.

This year, Trans Am races are available for live streaming on Trans Am and SpeedTour's YouTube channels, with full playbacks immediately available after the race. Additionally, the races can be seen in edited, 60-minute features broadcasted on MAVTV's Thursday night primetime slot at 8 p.m. ET.
