Tommy Archer set to fill in for Tommy Kendall at Lime Rock Park
September 18, 2014
SALISBURY, Conn. (Sept. 18, 2014) – Tommy Archer will be stepping into the driver’s seat of the No. 11 Miller Racing Dodge Challenger for Tommy Kendall this weekend at Lime Rock Park for Round Nine of the 2014 Trans Am Championship.
“Unfortunately Tommy (Kendall) had a preexisting television commitment this weekend,” said Mike Miller, owner of Miller Racing. “He’ll be back next weekend at Virginia International Raceway, but for this weekend we’re fortunate enough to have longtime Dodge driver Tommy Archer ready to fill in.”
Archer made his Trans Am debut in 1992 at Long Beach in a Dodge Daytona and has 48 Trans Am starts to his name, including 3 wins, 21 top-five appearances and 35 top-10 appearances.
“It’s really special to be able to come back,” said Archer, who worked with Dodge on the development of the Viper Competition Coupe in the 2000s. “A lot of people out there that love Trans Am like to see drivers that they’ve watched over the years, and I’m one of the guys who can say he has won Trans Am races in the past. I think we’ll be competitive with the Challenger at Lime Rock.”
In addition to Archer’s entry, Miller Racing will field the No. 1 Challenger for TA2 class points leader and defending TA2 Champion Cameron Lawrence.
Lawrence, who won the 2013 TA2 title, finished second at Lime Rock in 2013 after starting 10th in the event. The Lime Rock race was one of just two events Lawrence did not win during his nine-victory championship season.
“Cameron is always a threat to win any race in which he’s entered,” said Miller. “He’s had two great runs over the past two races, and I’m excited to see what he has in store for us back behind the wheel here at Lime Rock.”
Round Nine of the 2014 Trans Am Championship at Lime Rock Park will take place on Saturday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. EDT, with the race concluding at 67 laps (100.5 miles) or 75 minutes. The event will mark the third Trans Am race in which Miller Racing has participated with SRT Motorsports the Dodge Challenger platform.
