Tomy Drissi Maintains Third in Trans Am Points Through Series’ Inaugural Barber Visit

The 2009 series champion remains third in the point standings with one race remaining on the season

2009 Trans Am champion Tomy Drissi finished sixth in the TA class in Sunday’s Trans Am by Pirelli action at Barber Motorsports Park, the series’ first-ever visit to the prestigious Alabama venue. Drissi and the #8 Trench Shoring Company/Motul/Franklin Road Apparel Chevrolet Camaro squad will now look to focus on defending third place in the championship with just one round remaining in the championship.

Sunday’s race day started with a wet track, but no more rain in the forecast, meaning some cars would gamble by starting on slick tires. Starting fifth, Drissi elected to join the group on slicks, but the track didn’t dry as quickly as expected, forcing him to fight the challenging conditions and costing him a spot on the lead lap.

While the track conditions weren’t optimal for most of the race, Drissi was right on pace with the leaders when they were. Just before the race’s only caution, he was posting the fastest lap times on the track—even pulling away from eventual race winner Adam Andretti, who was pushing to catch leader Paul Menard. After the restart, Drissi remained well within sight of the leaders over the final six-lap dash to the finish.

“It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t have had a dry track for more of the race, because we were right on pace with the leaders at the end,” said Drissi. “We were the fastest car out there as the slick tires started to come in, and there’s no doubt in my mind we would have been on the podium in better conditions. Thanks to everybody on the team for their efforts. Now our focus turns to COTA and the finale, where we’ll hope to end the season on a high note.”

Despite the sixth-place finish, similar issues for polesitter Chris Dyson allowed Drissi to leave Barber with a two-point advantage for third in the standings. The goal is simple heading into the season finale: finish ahead of the #16 team to maintain the spot.

The 2025 Trans Am season wraps up at Circuit of the Americas on October 31-November 2. Last year, Drissi matched his season-best result at COTA with a second place finish from fifth on the grid. Click here to buy tickets to watch Tomy race!
