Tomy Drissi Returns to Trans Am at CTMP After IROC Triumph at Laguna Seca
August 28, 2025
· Tomy Drissi enters this weekend’s Trans Am event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park third in points
· Drissi’s past highlights at CTMP include three Trans Am podiums and an American Le Mans Series win
· Between Trans Am events, Drissi won the historic IROC Series Unser Family Cup at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca
After a long summer break, 2009 Trans Am champion Tomy Drissi and the #8 Trench Shoring Company/Motul/Franklin Road Apparel Chevrolet Camaro return to action this weekend in the CTMP SpeedTour at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Drissi will attempt to strengthen his grip on third in the TA championship in the only Canadian event of the season.
While most of Trans Am’s biggest names enjoyed a nearly two-month summer break, Drissi comes into the weekend with a momentum boost after winning the IROC Series Unser Family Cup earlier this month at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Drissi held off a late-race charge from Dario Franchitti, Kurt Busch, and Jeff Gordon to take the victory, and was honored to get to have fun on track against a legendary field of global racing champions.
Beyond the momentum of his recent IROC triumph, Drissi also has had plenty of success at CTMP. His first Trans Am podium at the track came in 2000, and he added another during his 2009 championship-winning season. Last year, Drissi finished third in the series’ return to CTMP, as he managed the unique challenge all Trans Am classes, including TA2, on track together.
Outside of Trans Am, Drissi also has a win at CTMP in the American Le Mans Series in 2012, when he shared RSR Racing’s PC entry with Bruno Junqueira. Today, RSR is known as 3GT Racing, and the team serves as one of Drissi Motorsports’ top championship rivals in Trans Am.
“I couldn’t be more excited to get back behind the wheel in Trans Am at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this weekend,” said Drissi. “The Canadian fans are always incredibly supportive, as we saw when we brought the series back to the track last year. I’m also feeling great after my IROC victory at Laguna Seca—just getting to compete was such an honor, and coming out ahead of such a legendary group of drivers was both very inspiring and humbling. I hope to bring that feeling into this weekend!”
Drissi and company will have a busy event ahead at CTMP, starting with test sessions at 10AM, 12PM, and 2:40PM on Thursday. Friday will see practice at 11:40AM and qualifying at 3:45PM, while Saturday’s race will take the green flag at 2:15PM for 41 laps or 75 minutes of racing. Tickets are available here; as always, live streaming will be available on both Speed Sport 1 and the Trans Am YouTube channel.
